Motorcycle Safety Tips
Motorcycle safety begins with you. Here are some important and helpful motorcycle tips to help you enjoy your riding experience for a lifetime:
- Always wear a helmet with a face shield or protective eyewear
Wearing a helmet is the best way to protect against severe head injuries. A motorcycle rider not wearing a helmet is five times more likely to sustain a critical head injury. - Wear appropriate gear
Wear protective gear that will reduce your injuries in case of an accident or a skid. - Follow traffic rules
Obey the speed limit; the faster you go the longer it will take you to stop. - Ride defensively
Don’t assume that a driver can see you. Most motorcycle accidents are caused by drivers violating a rider’s right of way. Stay out of a driver’s blind spot; signal well in advance of any change in direction; and watch for turning vehicles. - Complete a Motorcycle Safety Course
Whether you are a new rider or have ridden for years a motorcycle safety course is worth taking. These classes will help you develop good techniques to sharpen your riding skills. - Ride Sober
Don’t drink and ride. Riding requires good motor skills. Riding and drinking will harm you and others.
